FLA0102 - Anthropology II - Inquiries in Classical Anthropology

The concepts of culture (and its processes of attributing meaning) and society (organization, structure, institution and social function) approached from dimensions such as art, kinship, religion, economics, etc. The comparative method and participant observation as foundations of ethnographic research.
Provide theoretical and methodological reflection on fundamental concepts of British social anthropology and North American culturalism (classical phases). Discuss how classical theories relate to the themes of cultural diversity, racial relations and racism, and religious diversity in the society and school context. Explore issues, content and materials (publicity texts, films - documentaries and fictions -, photographic essays, reports, collection available at the Laboratory of Image and Sound of Anthropology - LISA) related to the course, in order to instrumentalize them in the training of students for teaching.
