Professor Guilherme Moura Fagundes—a faculty member of the Graduate Program in Social Anthropology at the University of São Paulo (PPGAS-USP), a researcher at the Maison du CNRS, coordinator of CHAMA (Collective for Anthropology, Environment, and Biotechnodiversity), and deputy coordinator of USP’s Laboratory of Image and Sound in Anthropology (LISA-USP)—received the "Environnement" Award in Brasília. The award was presented by the French Embassy in Brazil during the "Soirée Alumni" event.
The ceremony took place at the official residence of the French Ambassador to Brazil, Emmanuel Lenain, and was attended by the president of CAPES, Denise Pires de Carvalho, and the rector of the University of Brasília (UnB), Rozana Reigota Naves.
The distinction recognizes outstanding achievements in the environmental field by Brazilian alumni who completed part of their education in France. In its evaluation, the selection committee highlighted Guilherme Moura Fagundes's collaborations with French research institutions, as well as his academic and public engagement regarding integrated fire management in Brazil.
This work is currently continuing through the RESPIRO project—Restoring Pyrodiversity in the Cerrado—developed under the FAPESP/BIOTA Young Researcher program.
The financial award associated with the prize will be used to strengthen local fire management and firefighting brigades in the Serra Geral do Tocantins and Jalapão regions.
