On September 18, 2015, at 8:00 p.m., SESC Pinheiros will screen the film "Montando a Baiana" as part of the "Encontro de Baianas Ricas" (Rich Baianas Meeting) event.
The film debate will feature the film's directors, Aurélio Prates, and Kelwin Marques, a researcher at the Visual Anthropology Group (GRAVI-USP). The meeting proposes a discussion about the presence of the Baianas Ricas in the royal processions of the Maracatu Nations, especially from the mid-20th century onward, when figures such as transvestites, gays, and other bodies that challenged norms of femininity began to occupy this central position.
Supported by the Image and Sound Laboratory in Anthropology (LISA-USP), the film seeks to present the relationship of these Baianas Ricas of maracatu with their ancestry. The connection with ancestry can come from the memories of older Bahian women, as well as from contact with more-than-human feminine beings such as the Yabás, the Mestras de Jurema, Pombagiras, etc. For more information about the event, visit the website: https://www.sescsp.org.br/programacao/montando-a-baiana/
